CURaj CGPA — Frequently Asked Questions
What is the CURaj grading scale?
CURaj uses a 10-point CBCS grading system with two tables:
Regular Programmes: O = 10 (≥ 91) · A+ = 9 (81–90) · A = 8 (71–80) · B+ = 7 (61–70) · B = 6 (51–60) · C = 5 (41–50) · P = 4 (35–40, Pass) · F = 0 (< 35, Fail).
Professional Programmes: Same O–B grades, but no C grade; P = 5 (45–50, Pass) and F = 0 (< 45). Pass threshold is higher.
Non-performance designations: Ab, Dt, I, W, X, AU — all carry 0 grade points.
How is CURaj CGPA converted to percentage?
CURaj has issued multiple notifications over the years. The current one is:
- 2017 notification (batch 2017 onwards): Percentage = CGPA × 10. Example: CGPA 8.5 → 85%.
- Older notification (pre-2017): Conditional — Percentage = CGPA × 9.5 if CGPA > 7, or CGPA × 9.0 if CGPA ≤ 7.
Check your batch's specific CURaj notification before applying for jobs or higher studies.
What are CURaj's Professional Programmes?
CURaj's Professional Programmes use a stricter grading table (45% minimum pass instead of 35%). They include:
- M.Tech (Computer Science and Engineering, Cyber Physical System)
- M.Pharm (Pharmaceutics, Pharmaceutical Chemistry)
- M.Arch (Sustainable Architecture)
- MBA
- M.Sc. in Computer Science (Big Data Analytics)
- M.Sc. in Digital Society
- M.Sc. (Sports Biochemistry / Physiology / Nutrition / Biomechanics)
- M.Sc. / M.A. (Sports Psychology)
How is CGPA calculated at CURaj?
CGPA = Σ(Credits × Grade Point) ÷ Σ(Credits), where the sum is taken over all courses in the programme.
Per the CURaj ordinance, a grade lower than D (grade point < 4) is not taken into account when computing CGPA. The student must clear the course first.
What do I, W, X, AU grades mean at CURaj?
I (Incomplete): Awarded when a student misses the End-of-Semester Examination for valid reasons. May be converted to a proper letter grade not exceeding B (60% maximum) via a make-up exam, normally within 10 days.
W (Withdrawal): Awarded when a student officially withdraws from a course.
X (Continued Project): For multi-semester projects that span into the next semester.
AU (Audit): Course taken for credit but not counted toward CGPA.
Ab/Dt: Absent / Detained. All these carry 0 grade points if not converted to proper letter grades.
Why do I see different CGPA-to-percentage formulas online for CURaj?
CURaj has released several CGPA-to-percentage notifications over the years, which is why students often see different multipliers cited.
The 2017 notification (for batch 2017 onwards) supersedes older ones and uses the clean Percentage = CGPA × 10 formula. If you graduated before 2017, you may need to use the older conditional formula (× 9.5 or × 9.0).
For official transcripts and conversion certificates, always contact the CURaj Controller of Examinations.
