Anurag University CGPA — Frequently Asked Questions
What is the Anurag University grading scale?
Anurag University uses a 10-point letter grading system:
O = 10 (Outstanding, ≥ 90%) · A+ = 9 (Excellent, 80–89%) · A = 8 (Very Good, 70–79%) · B+ = 7 (Good, 60–69%) · B = 6 (Average, 50–59%) · C = 5 (Pass, 40–49%) · F = 0 (Fail, < 40%) · Ab = 0 (Absent).

How is Anurag University CGPA converted to percentage?
The Anurag University B.Tech R20 regulations describe the CGPA→percentage conversion in section 18.11. The standard UGC-CBCS approach used by most Indian universities is:
Percentage = CGPA × 10
Examples: CGPA 7.77 → 77.7% | CGPA 8.5 → 85% | CGPA 9.0 → 90%.
Some references also cite an alternative formula (CGPA − 0.5) × 10. Always verify which formula your transcript or department uses before applying for jobs or higher studies.
What CGPA is needed for First Class with Distinction at Anurag University?
For B.Tech:
- First Class with Distinction: CGPA ≥ 8.0 with all courses passed in regular examinations within 4 years, no detention due to attendance shortage.
- First Class: 6.50 ≤ CGPA < 8.0
- Second Class: 5.50 ≤ CGPA < 6.50
- Pass: 5.0 ≤ CGPA < 5.50
For MCA: First Class with Distinction requires CGPA ≥ 8.0 within 2 years. First Class is 6.75 ≤ CGPA < 8.0. Second Class is 6.00 ≤ CGPA < 6.75.
Does this calculator work for both B.Tech and MCA students?
Yes. The SGPA/CGPA calculation formulas and the percentage conversion are identical for B.Tech and MCA at Anurag University.
The only difference is the Award of Division thresholds — for MCA, Second Class starts at CGPA 6.00 (not 5.50), and the minimum CGPA to graduate is 6.00 (not 5.0 as for B.Tech).
What is the minimum CGPA to graduate from Anurag University?
For B.Tech: minimum CGPA is 5.0, and the student must secure grade point ≥ 5 (C grade or above) in every registered course.
For MCA: minimum final CGPA is 6.00 — below this, the student is not eligible for award of degree.
What's the difference between SGPA and CGPA at Anurag University?
SGPA (Semester Grade Point Average) is calculated for a single semester using the credit points of each course.
CGPA (Cumulative Grade Point Average) is the weighted average of all SGPAs earned across all completed semesters, weighted by each semester's total credits.
At Anurag University, the formula for GPA, SGPA, and CGPA is the same: Σ(Credit × Grade Point) ÷ Σ(Credit).
How are Anurag University backlogs counted in CGPA?
An F grade or Ab grade carries 0 grade points but the credits remain in the CGPA denominator, lowering CGPA.
Once you clear the backlog through supplementary examinations, the new grade replaces the F/Ab and CGPA is recomputed. Note that detention or shortage of attendance disqualifies a student from First Class with Distinction.
