GPA Calculator

Calculate your WPI GPA and convert it to percentage using the official 4.0 grading scale used for your WPI numerical equivalent.

Tool 1

WPI GPA Calculator

Add each course with its letter grade and credit hours. Calculation uses WPI's official grade-point values.

Add Your Courses

WPI uses a 4.0 scale with A, B, C, D, F — no plus or minus grades.

The Math

How WPI GPA Is Calculated

WPI multiplies each grade point by credit hours to get grade points earned, then divides the total by the total credit hours.

WPI GPA Formula
\[ \text{GPA} = \frac{\displaystyle\sum \text{Grade Points}}{\displaystyle\sum \text{Credit Hours}} = \frac{\displaystyle\sum (\text{Grade Point} \times \text{Credit Hours})}{\displaystyle\sum \text{Credit Hours}} \]
Grade PointsGrade point value × credit hours for each course
Credit HoursTotal graded credit hours (excludes P, NC, AU, W, I, etc.)

📝 Worked Example

A sample calculation using three courses:

CourseCredit HoursGradeGrade PointGrade Points Earned
MA 10213.0A4.003 × 4.00 = 12.00
PH 11103.0B3.003 × 3.00 = 9.00
EN 12193.0C2.003 × 2.00 = 6.00
Total9.027.00

Plugging into the formula:

\[ \text{GPA} = \frac{27.00}{9.0} = \mathbf{3.00} \]
Tool 2

WPI GPA to Percentage Converter

Convert your 4.0-scale WPI GPA to an equivalent percentage instantly.

Convert GPA → Percentage

Enter any WPI GPA between 0.0 and 4.0.

The Conversion Formula

WPI uses a 4.0 scale, so:

\[ \text{Percentage} = \text{GPA} \times 25 \quad \text{or equivalently} \quad \text{Percentage} = \left(\frac{\text{GPA}}{4.0}\right) \times 100 \]

Example: If your GPA is 3.5, then Percentage = 3.5 × 25 = 87.50%.

📘 WPI Grade Points (4.0 Scale)

Note: WPI uses no plus or minus grades — there is no A+, A−, or B+.

A4.00Excellent
B3.00Good
C2.00Acceptable
D1.00Passing (consortium / graduate / non-degree)
F0.00Failure

📌 Grades Excluded from GPA

The following marks carry no grade points and are not counted in credit hours: AU (Audit), NC (No Credit), P (Pass), I (Incomplete), W (Withdrawal), SP (Satisfactory Progress), and UP.

WPI undergraduates normally receive A, B, C or NR (No Record). The D and F grades apply to consortium, non-degree, and graduate students. The numerical equivalent uses A = 4.0, B = 3.0, C = 2.0.

Got Questions?

WPI GPA — Frequently Asked Questions

What GPA scale does Worcester Polytechnic Institute use?

WPI uses a traditional 4.0 grade-point scale: A = 4.00, B = 3.00, C = 2.00, D = 1.00, and F = 0.00. There are no plus or minus grades.

Does WPI maintain a cumulative GPA?

WPI does not print a cumulative GPA on undergraduate transcripts. If you need one — for example, for graduate or professional school applications — you can request a numerical equivalent from the Registrar, calculated as A = 4.0, B = 3.0, C = 2.0.

Is there an A+ at WPI?

No. WPI uses only A, B, C, D, and F with no plus or minus modifiers. The highest grade point is A = 4.00.

How do I convert my WPI GPA to a percentage?

Use Percentage = GPA × 25 (equivalent to (GPA ÷ 4.0) × 100). For example, a GPA of 3.5 converts to 87.5%.

Which grades are left out of my WPI GPA?

Marks of AU, NC, P, I, W, SP, and UP carry no grade points and are excluded from both grade points earned and credit hours, so they don't affect your GPA.
