GPA Calculator

Calculate your WSU GPA and convert it to percentage using the official 4.0 grading scale used on your Cougar transcript.

Tool 1

WSU GPA Calculator

Add each course with its letter grade and credits. Calculation uses WSU's official grade-point values.

Add Your Courses

WSU uses a 4.0 scale. GPA = total points earned ÷ credits attempted (F counts attempted credits).

The Math

How WSU GPA Is Calculated

WSU multiplies each grade point by course credits to get earned points, then divides total earned points by credits attempted.

WSU GPA Formula
\[ \text{GPA} = \frac{\displaystyle\sum \text{Points Earned}}{\displaystyle\sum \text{Credits Attempted}} = \frac{\displaystyle\sum (\text{Grade Point} \times \text{Credits})}{\displaystyle\sum \text{Credits Attempted}} \]
Points EarnedGrade point value × credits for each course
Credits AttemptedAll graded credits, including F (excludes P, S, W, I, etc.)

📝 Worked Example

An official WSU example using three graded courses:

CourseCreditsGradeGrade PointPoints Earned
Soc 1013B+3.33 × 3.3 = 9.9
Engl 1024C2.04 × 2.0 = 8.0
Math 2023A4.03 × 4.0 = 12.0
Total1029.9

Plugging into the formula:

\[ \text{GPA} = \frac{29.9}{10} = \mathbf{2.99} \]
Tool 2

WSU GPA to Percentage Converter

Convert your 4.0-scale WSU GPA to an equivalent percentage instantly.

Convert GPA → Percentage

Enter any WSU GPA between 0.0 and 4.0.

The Conversion Formula

WSU uses a 4.0 scale, so:

\[ \text{Percentage} = \text{GPA} \times 25 \quad \text{or equivalently} \quad \text{Percentage} = \left(\frac{\text{GPA}}{4.0}\right) \times 100 \]

Example: If your GPA is 3.5, then Percentage = 3.5 × 25 = 87.50%.

📌 Grades Excluded from GPA

The following auxiliary codes carry no grade points and are not used in GPA: P / PP (Passing), S (Satisfactory), H (Honors Pass), M (Marginal), U (Unsatisfactory), I (Incomplete), IC (Incomplete COVID-19), NRC (No Record COVID-19), W (Withdrawn), and X (Grade not available).

Unlike the codes above, an F earns no points but its attempted credits are still divided into your GPA, which lowers it.

Got Questions?

WSU GPA — Frequently Asked Questions

What GPA scale does Washington State University use?

WSU uses a standard 4.0 grade-point scale: A = 4.0, A− = 3.7, B+ = 3.3, B = 3.0, B− = 2.7, C+ = 2.3, C = 2.0, C− = 1.7, D+ = 1.3, D = 1.0, and F = 0.0. There is no A+ or D−.

How does WSU calculate my GPA?

GPA = Total Points Earned ÷ Number of Credits Attempted. Each grade point is multiplied by the course credits to get earned points, then summed and divided by the total attempted credits.

Does an F count toward my WSU GPA?

Yes. An F earns 0 grade points, but the attempted credits are still counted in the GPA divisor, so an F lowers your GPA. Codes like W, I, P, and S are excluded entirely.

How do I convert my WSU GPA to a percentage?

Use Percentage = GPA × 25 (equivalent to (GPA ÷ 4.0) × 100). For example, a GPA of 3.5 converts to 87.5%.

Which grades are left out of my WSU GPA?

Auxiliary codes P, PP, S, H, M, U, I, IC, NRC, W, and X carry no grade points and are excluded from the GPA calculation, so they don't affect it.
