GPA Calculator

Calculate your USF GPA and convert it to percentage using the official plus/minus 4.0 quality-point scale used on your USF Bulls transcript.

Tool 1

USF GPA Calculator

Add each course with its letter grade and credit hours. Calculation uses USF's official quality-point values.

Add Your Courses

USF uses a plus/minus 4.0 scale. A+ and A both count as 4.00 — 4.0 is the maximum.

The Math

How USF GPA Is Calculated

USF multiplies each grade's quality-point value by its credit hours, then divides total quality points by total graded hours attempted.

USF GPA Formula
\[ \text{GPA} = \frac{\displaystyle\sum \text{Quality Points}}{\displaystyle\sum \text{Graded Hours}} = \frac{\displaystyle\sum (\text{Quality Point} \times \text{Credit Hours})}{\displaystyle\sum \text{Credit Hours}} \]
Quality PointsGrade value × credit hours for each course
Graded HoursTotal graded credit hours (excludes S, U, I, M, W, etc.)

📝 Worked Example

An example using three courses:

CourseCredit HoursGradeQuality PointQuality Points
ENC 11013.0A4.003 × 4.00 = 12.00
MAC 23114.0B−2.674 × 2.67 = 10.68
CHM 20453.0C+2.333 × 2.33 = 6.99
Total10.029.67

Plugging into the formula:

\[ \text{GPA} = \frac{29.67}{10.0} \approx \mathbf{2.97} \]
Tool 2

USF GPA to Percentage Converter

Convert your 4.0-scale USF GPA to an equivalent percentage instantly.

Convert GPA → Percentage

Enter any USF GPA between 0.0 and 4.0.

The Conversion Formula

USF uses a 4.0 scale, so:

\[ \text{Percentage} = \text{GPA} \times 25 \quad \text{or equivalently} \quad \text{Percentage} = \left(\frac{\text{GPA}}{4.0}\right) \times 100 \]

Example: If your GPA is 3.5, then Percentage = 3.5 × 25 = 87.50%.

Got Questions?

USF GPA — Frequently Asked Questions

What GPA scale does the University of South Florida use?

USF uses a plus/minus 4.0 quality-point scale: A and A+ = 4.00, A− = 3.67, B+ = 3.33, B = 3.00, B− = 2.67, C+ = 2.33, C = 2.00, C− = 1.67, D+ = 1.33, D = 1.00, D− = 0.67, and F = 0.00.

Is A+ worth more than 4.0 at USF?

No. At USF an A+ is worth the same as an A — 4.00 quality points. Since an "A" already starts at the maximum of 4, the plus does not add anything beyond that ceiling.

How does USF assign plus and minus quality points?

An "A" starts at 4.0. For each plus (+) a third of a point is added, and for each minus (−) a third of a point is removed. So B+ = 3.33, B = 3.00, and B− = 2.67.

How do I convert my USF GPA to a percentage?

Use Percentage = GPA × 25 (equivalent to (GPA ÷ 4.0) × 100). For example, a GPA of 3.5 converts to 87.5%.

Which grades are left out of my USF GPA?

Marks of I, IU, M, MU, N, S, U, W, Z, and E carry no quality points and are excluded from total graded hours, so they don't affect your GPA. S/U (pass-fail) courses are the most common example.
