GPA Calculator

Calculate your UofSC GPA and convert it to percentage using the official 4.0 grading scale — plus grades only, no minus grades — used on your Gamecock transcript.

Tool 1

UofSC GPA Calculator

Add each course with its letter grade and credit hours. Calculation uses UofSC's official grade-point values.

Add Your Courses

UofSC uses a 4.0 scale with plus grades only. Each plus adds 0.5 (e.g. B+ = 3.5).

The Math

How UofSC GPA Is Calculated

UofSC multiplies each grade's quality-point factor by credit hours to get grade points, then divides total grade points by attempted hours.

UofSC GPA Formula
\[ \text{GPA} = \frac{\displaystyle\sum \text{Grade Points}}{\displaystyle\sum \text{Credit Hours}} = \frac{\displaystyle\sum (\text{Quality-Point Factor} \times \text{Credit Hours})}{\displaystyle\sum \text{Credit Hours}} \]
Grade PointsQuality-point factor × credit hours for each course
Credit HoursTotal hours attempted for credit (excludes pass-fail, audit, etc.)

📝 Worked Example

An example using three courses on the UofSC scale:

CourseCredit HoursGradeFactorGrade Points
ENGL 1013.0A4.03 × 4.0 = 12.0
MATH 1224.0B+3.54 × 3.5 = 14.0
HIST 1113.0C+2.53 × 2.5 = 7.5
Total10.033.5

Plugging into the formula:

\[ \text{GPA} = \frac{33.5}{10.0} = \mathbf{3.35} \]
Tool 2

UofSC GPA to Percentage Converter

Convert your 4.0-scale UofSC GPA to an equivalent percentage instantly.

Convert GPA → Percentage

Enter any UofSC GPA between 0.0 and 4.0.

The Conversion Formula

UofSC uses a 4.0 scale, so:

\[ \text{Percentage} = \text{GPA} \times 25 \quad \text{or equivalently} \quad \text{Percentage} = \left(\frac{\text{GPA}}{4.0}\right) \times 100 \]

Example: If your GPA is 3.5, then Percentage = 3.5 × 25 = 87.50%.

📌 Additional Grades & Symbols

The following marks carry no quality points and do not affect GPA: AUD (Audit), I (Incomplete), IP (In Progress), NG (No Grade), NR (No Report), S/U (Satisfactory/Unsatisfactory), W (Withdrawn Without Penalty), and academic forgiveness symbols.

FN (Failure for Non-Attendance) and WF (Withdrawn With Penalty) count as 0.0, the same as an F. An NR is changed to an F after one semester if no grade is reported.

Got Questions?

UofSC GPA — Frequently Asked Questions

What GPA scale does the University of South Carolina use?

UofSC uses a standard 4.0 grade-point scale with plus grades only and no minus grades: A = 4.0, B+ = 3.5, B = 3.0, C+ = 2.5, C = 2.0, D+ = 1.5, D = 1.0, and F = 0.0. Each plus grade adds 0.5, not the 0.33 used at many other schools.

Does UofSC use minus grades like A− or B−?

No. The University of South Carolina does not use minus grades. Only plus grades (B+, C+, D+) exist, and each is worth 0.5 above the base letter grade.

How do I convert my UofSC GPA to a percentage?

Use Percentage = GPA × 25 (equivalent to (GPA ÷ 4.0) × 100). For example, a GPA of 3.5 converts to 87.5%.

What is the difference between FN and a regular F at UofSC?

Both count as 0.0 in your GPA. FN means Failure for Non-Attendance and is assigned when a student stops attending, while F is a standard failing grade. WF (Withdrawn With Penalty) also counts as 0.0.

Which grades are left out of my UofSC GPA?

Marks of AUD, I, IP, NG, NR, S/U, and W, along with academic forgiveness symbols, carry no quality points and are excluded from the GPA calculation, so they don't affect your GPA.
