GPA Calculator

Calculate your UO GPA and convert it to percentage using the official plus/minus 4.0 quality-point scale used on your Oregon Ducks transcript.

Tool 1

UO GPA Calculator

Add each course with its letter grade and credits. Calculation uses UO's official quality-point values.

Add Your Courses

UO uses a plus/minus 4.0 scale. A plus adds 0.3 and a minus subtracts 0.3 per credit, so A+ counts as 4.3.

The Math

How UO GPA Is Calculated

UO multiplies each grade's quality points by its credits, then divides total quality points by total graded credits.

UO GPA Formula
\[ \text{GPA} = \frac{\displaystyle\sum \text{Quality Points}}{\displaystyle\sum \text{Graded Credits}} = \frac{\displaystyle\sum (\text{Grade Value} \times \text{Credits})}{\displaystyle\sum \text{Credits}} \]
Quality PointsGrade value × credits for each course
Graded CreditsTotal credits of A, B, C, D, F (excludes P, N, I, AU, W, Y, X)

📝 Worked Example

A UO example using three courses:

CourseCreditsGradeGrade ValueQuality Points
WR 1214.0A4.004 × 4.00 = 16.00
MATH 1114.0B+3.304 × 3.30 = 13.20
HIST 1014.0C−1.704 × 1.70 = 6.80
Total12.036.00

Plugging into the formula:

\[ \text{GPA} = \frac{36.00}{12.0} = \mathbf{3.00} \]

Note: UO truncates the GPA at two digits after the decimal point (it does not round up).

Tool 2

UO GPA to Percentage Converter

Convert your 4.0-scale UO GPA to an equivalent percentage instantly.

Convert GPA → Percentage

Enter any UO GPA between 0.0 and 4.3.

The Conversion Formula

UO uses a 4.0 scale, so:

\[ \text{Percentage} = \text{GPA} \times 25 \quad \text{or equivalently} \quad \text{Percentage} = \left(\frac{\text{GPA}}{4.0}\right) \times 100 \]

Example: If your GPA is 3.5, then Percentage = 3.5 × 25 = 87.50%.

📌 Grades Excluded from GPA

The following marks carry no quality points and are disregarded in the GPA computation: P (Pass), N (No Pass), I (Incomplete), AU (Audit), W (Withdrawal), Y (No basis for grade, discontinued Fall 2017), and X (grade not reported).

The UO GPA is truncated at two digits after the decimal point rather than rounded.

Got Questions?

UO GPA — Frequently Asked Questions

What GPA scale does the University of Oregon use?

UO uses a plus/minus 4.0 quality-point scale: A = 4.0, B = 3.0, C = 2.0, D = 1.0, and F = 0.0. A plus adds 0.3 per credit and a minus subtracts 0.3, so A+ = 4.3, A− = 3.7, B+ = 3.3, and so on.

Is A+ worth 4.3 at UO?

Yes — a plus sign adds 0.3 quality points, so an A+ is worth 4.3. UO does not cap the GPA at 4.0, so an A+ can raise your overall GPA above 4.0.

How is the UO GPA rounded?

The University of Oregon truncates the grade point average at two digits after the decimal point — it does not round up. For example, a calculated 3.499 is reported as 3.49.

How do I convert my UO GPA to a percentage?

Use Percentage = GPA × 25 (equivalent to (GPA ÷ 4.0) × 100). For example, a GPA of 3.5 converts to 87.5%.

Which grades are left out of my UO GPA?

Marks of P, N, I, AU, W, Y, and X carry no quality points and are disregarded in the GPA computation, so they don't affect your GPA.
