How UO GPA Is Calculated
UO multiplies each grade's quality points by its credits, then divides total quality points by total graded credits.
📝 Worked Example
A UO example using three courses:
| Course | Credits | Grade | Grade Value | Quality Points |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| WR 121 | 4.0 | A | 4.00 | 4 × 4.00 = 16.00 |
| MATH 111 | 4.0 | B+ | 3.30 | 4 × 3.30 = 13.20 |
| HIST 101 | 4.0 | C− | 1.70 | 4 × 1.70 = 6.80 |
| Total | 12.0 | — | — | 36.00 |
Plugging into the formula:
Note: UO truncates the GPA at two digits after the decimal point (it does not round up).

UO GPA — Frequently Asked Questions
What GPA scale does the University of Oregon use?
UO uses a plus/minus 4.0 quality-point scale: A = 4.0, B = 3.0, C = 2.0, D = 1.0, and F = 0.0. A plus adds 0.3 per credit and a minus subtracts 0.3, so A+ = 4.3, A− = 3.7, B+ = 3.3, and so on.
Is A+ worth 4.3 at UO?
Yes — a plus sign adds 0.3 quality points, so an A+ is worth 4.3. UO does not cap the GPA at 4.0, so an A+ can raise your overall GPA above 4.0.
How is the UO GPA rounded?
The University of Oregon truncates the grade point average at two digits after the decimal point — it does not round up. For example, a calculated 3.499 is reported as 3.49.
How do I convert my UO GPA to a percentage?
Use Percentage = GPA × 25 (equivalent to (GPA ÷ 4.0) × 100). For example, a GPA of 3.5 converts to 87.5%.
Which grades are left out of my UO GPA?
Marks of P, N, I, AU, W, Y, and X carry no quality points and are disregarded in the GPA computation, so they don't affect your GPA.
