University of Arizona GPA — Frequently Asked Questions
What GPA scale does the University of Arizona use?
For undergraduate, graduate, pharmacy, and medicine programs, UA uses a straight 4.0 scale: A = 4, B = 3, C = 2, D = 1, E = 0. There are no plus or minus grades for these programs.
Does the University of Arizona use plus and minus grades?
No — for undergraduate and graduate programs UA uses only the whole letters A, B, C, D, and E. Plus/minus grades (A−, B+, etc.) apply only to the College of Law Juris Doctor program.
Why does the University of Arizona use E instead of F?
UA records a failing grade as E (value 0.00), not F. A, B, C, D, and E are the regular grades counted in the GPA. A separate F appears only in limited cases such as the pass/fail option.
How do I convert my UA GPA to a percentage?
Use Percentage = GPA × 25 (equivalent to (GPA ÷ 4.0) × 100). For example, a GPA of 3.5 converts to 87.5%.
Which grades are left out of my UA GPA?
Pass/fail grades (P, F), Credit by Exam (CR), I (Incomplete), IP (In Progress), and transfer credits carry no grade points and are excluded from total units, so they don't affect your GPA.
