GPA Calculator

Calculate your UB GPA and convert it to percentage using the official plus/minus 4.0 grading scale from the UB Office of the Registrar.

Tool 1

UB GPA Calculator

Add each course with its letter grade and credit hours. Calculation uses UB's official grade-point values, reported to three decimal places.

Add Your Courses

UB uses a plus/minus 4.0 scale with no A+ and no D−. GPA is also called QPA (quality point average).

The Math

How UB GPA Is Calculated

UB multiplies each grade's point value by the course credit hours to get grade points earned, then divides total grade points by total graded credits.

UB GPA Formula
\[ \text{GPA} = \frac{\displaystyle\sum \text{Grade Points Earned}}{\displaystyle\sum \text{Graded Credits}} = \frac{\displaystyle\sum (\text{Grade Point Equivalent} \times \text{Credit Hours})}{\displaystyle\sum \text{Credit Hours}} \]
Grade Points EarnedGrade point equivalent × credit hours for each course
Graded CreditsTotal credits with a letter grade (excludes S/U, P, I, W, N)

📝 Worked Example

The official sample calculation from the UB Office of the Registrar:

ClassLetter GradeGrade Points EquivalentCredit HoursGrade Points Earned
EnglishA4.00033 × 4.000 = 12.000
PhysicsB+3.33344 × 3.333 = 13.332
ChemistryA−3.66733 × 3.667 = 11.001
World HistoryC2.00033 × 2.000 = 6.000
FinanceB−2.66733 × 2.667 = 8.001
Total1650.334

Plugging into the formula:

\[ \text{GPA} = \frac{50.334}{16} \approx \mathbf{3.146} \]

UB GPA to Percentage Converter

Convert your 4.0-scale UB GPA to an equivalent percentage instantly.

Convert GPA → Percentage

Enter any UB GPA between 0.0 and 4.0.

The Conversion Formula

UB uses a 4.0 scale, so:

\[ \text{Percentage} = \text{GPA} \times 25 \quad \text{or equivalently} \quad \text{Percentage} = \left(\frac{\text{GPA}}{4.0}\right) \times 100 \]

Example: If your GPA is 3.5, then Percentage = 3.5 × 25 = 87.50%.

📌 Grades Excluded from GPA

Only letter grades are used in determining GPA. Marks such as S/U (satisfactory/unsatisfactory), P (pass), I (incomplete), W (withdrawal/resign), and N (audit) carry no grade points and are excluded from graded credits.

An undergraduate course taken S/U converts a grade of C or better to S and C− or lower to U; neither S nor U affects your GPA.
