Add Your Courses

Harvard uses a 4.0 scale with no A+. The maximum cumulative GPA is 4.00.

The Math

How Harvard GPA Is Calculated

Harvard FAS weights each grade point by the number of course credits, then divides the total quality points by total credits.

Harvard GPA Formula
\[ \text{GPA} = \frac{\displaystyle\sum \text{Quality Points}}{\displaystyle\sum \text{Credits}} = \frac{\displaystyle\sum (\text{Grade Point} \times \text{Credits})}{\displaystyle\sum \text{Credits}} \]
Quality PointsGrade point value × course credits for each course
CreditsTotal letter-graded credits (excludes PA, SAT, etc.)

📝 Worked Example

A sample term with three Harvard courses:

CourseCreditsGradeGrade PointQuality Points
EXPOS 204.0A4.004 × 4.00 = 16.00
EC 104.0B+3.334 × 3.33 = 13.32
STAT 1104.0A−3.674 × 3.67 = 14.68
Total12.044.00

Plugging into the formula:

\[ \text{GPA} = \frac{44.00}{12.0} \approx \mathbf{3.67} \]

Harvard GPA to Percentage Converter

Convert your 4.0-scale Harvard GPA to an equivalent percentage instantly.

Convert GPA → Percentage

Enter any Harvard GPA between 0.0 and 4.0.

The Conversion Formula

Harvard uses a 4.0 scale, so:

\[ \text{Percentage} = \text{GPA} \times 25 \quad \text{or equivalently} \quad \text{Percentage} = \left(\frac{\text{GPA}}{4.0}\right) \times 100 \]

Example: If your GPA is 3.7, then Percentage = 3.7 × 25 = 92.50%.

Got Questions?

Harvard GPA — Frequently Asked Questions

What GPA scale does Harvard University use?

The Harvard Faculty of Arts and Sciences (FAS) uses a 4.0 grade-point scale: A = 4.00, A− = 3.67, B+ = 3.33, B = 3.00, B− = 2.67, C+ = 2.33, C = 2.00, C− = 1.67, D+ = 1.33, D = 1.00, D− = 0.67, and E = 0.00.

Does Harvard have an A+ grade?

No. The Harvard FAS letter-grade system tops out at A (4.00) — there is no A+. This means the maximum possible cumulative GPA is 4.00.

Why does Harvard use E instead of F?

Harvard FAS uses E (value 0.00) to denote a failing grade. It works exactly like an F. The marks ABS, UNS, and EXLD are also counted as 0.00 in the GPA.

How do I convert my Harvard GPA to a percentage?

Use Percentage = GPA × 25 (equivalent to (GPA ÷ 4.0) × 100). For example, a GPA of 3.7 converts to 92.5%.

Are Pass/Fail courses included in the Harvard GPA?

No. Non-letter grades such as PA (Pass) and SAT (Satisfactory) carry no grade points and are excluded from the GPA. Only letter-graded courses count toward your GPA.
