GPA Calculator

Calculate your FSU GPA and convert it to percentage using the official plus/minus 4.0 quality-point scale used on your Seminole transcript.

Tool 1

FSU GPA Calculator

Add each course with its letter grade and credit (semester) hours. Calculation uses FSU's official quality-point values.

Add Your Courses

FSU uses a plus/minus 4.0 scale with 0.25 increments (e.g. B+ = 3.25, not 3.33).

The Math

How FSU GPA Is Calculated

FSU multiplies each grade's quality-point value by credit hours, then divides total quality points by total credit hours attempted with letter grades.

FSU GPA Formula
\[ \text{GPA} = \frac{\displaystyle\sum \text{Quality Points}}{\displaystyle\sum \text{Credit Hours}} = \frac{\displaystyle\sum (\text{Quality Points} \times \text{Credit Hours})}{\displaystyle\sum \text{Credit Hours}} \]
Quality PointsGrade value × credit hours for each course
Credit HoursTotal letter-graded hours (excludes S, U, P, I, W, etc.)

📝 Worked Example

A sample semester using three FSU courses:

CourseCredit HoursGradeQuality PointsTotal
ENC 11013.0A4.003 × 4.00 = 12.00
MAC 23114.0B+3.254 × 3.25 = 13.00
PSY 20123.0C−1.753 × 1.75 = 5.25
Total10.030.25

Plugging into the formula:

\[ \text{GPA} = \frac{30.25}{10.0} \approx \mathbf{3.03} \]
Tool 2

FSU GPA to Percentage Converter

Convert your 4.0-scale FSU GPA to an equivalent percentage instantly.

Convert GPA → Percentage

Enter any FSU GPA between 0.0 and 4.0.

The Conversion Formula

FSU uses a 4.0 scale, so:

\[ \text{Percentage} = \text{GPA} \times 25 \quad \text{or equivalently} \quad \text{Percentage} = \left(\frac{\text{GPA}}{4.0}\right) \times 100 \]

Example: If your GPA is 3.5, then Percentage = 3.5 × 25 = 87.50%.

📌 Grades Excluded from GPA

The following marks carry no quality points and are not counted in credit hours attempted: S (Satisfactory), U (Unsatisfactory), P (Pass), I (Incomplete), NG (No Grade), W (Withdrawn), WD (Withdrawn with Dean's Permission), EC (Examination Credit), and ED (Departmental Examination).

Expired marks IE and GE count as 0.00 (treated as an F) in the GPA. Transfer credits appear on the record but do not change the FSU cumulative GPA.

Got Questions?

FSU GPA — Frequently Asked Questions

What GPA scale does Florida State University use?

FSU uses a plus/minus 4.0 quality-point scale: A = 4.00, A− = 3.75, B+ = 3.25, B = 3.00, B− = 2.75, C+ = 2.25, C = 2.00, C− = 1.75, D+ = 1.25, D = 1.00, D− = 0.75, and F = 0.00. The plus/minus values use 0.25 increments, not the 0.33 increments common elsewhere.

Is A+ used at Florida State University?

An A+ (worth 4.33) is awarded only in the College of Law. For undergraduate and most graduate programs the highest grade is A = 4.00, so this calculator uses the standard undergraduate scale that tops out at A.

How do I convert my FSU GPA to a percentage?

Use Percentage = GPA × 25 (equivalent to (GPA ÷ 4.0) × 100). For example, a GPA of 3.5 converts to 87.5%.

How does FSU calculate GPA?

FSU multiplies each grade's quality-point value by the course's credit hours to get total quality points, then divides total quality points by the total credit hours attempted with letter grades (A through F).

Which grades are excluded from the FSU GPA?

Grades of S, U, P, I, NG, W, WD, EC, and ED carry no quality points and are excluded from the GPA. Transfer credits also do not affect the FSU cumulative GPA.
