How FIU GPA Is Calculated
FIU multiplies each grade point by credit hours to get grade points earned, then divides total grade points by total graded credit hours.
📝 Worked Example
A sample calculation using three courses:
| Course | Credit Hours | Grade | Grade Point | Grade Points Earned |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| ENC 1101 | 3.0 | A | 4.00 | 3 × 4.00 = 12.00 |
| MAC 2311 | 4.0 | B− | 2.67 | 4 × 2.67 = 10.68 |
| CHM 1045 | 3.0 | C | 2.00 | 3 × 2.00 = 6.00 |
| Total | 10.0 | — | — | 28.68 |

An F0 (never attended) is treated identically to an F (0.00) for GPA purposes. An IN that is not made up within two consecutive semesters defaults automatically to an F.
