How Brandeis GPA Is Calculated
Brandeis multiplies each grade point by credit hours to get quality points, then divides total quality points by attempted units.
📝 Worked Example
A sample calculation using three four-credit courses:
| Course | Credit Hours | Grade | Grade Point | Points |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| ENG 1A | 4.0 | A | 4.00 | 4 × 4.00 = 16.00 |
| MATH 10A | 4.0 | B− | 2.67 | 4 × 2.67 = 10.68 |
| ECON 10A | 4.0 | C+ | 2.33 | 4 × 2.33 = 9.32 |
| Total | 12.0 | — | — | 36.00 |

Brandeis GPA — Frequently Asked Questions
What GPA scale does Brandeis University use?
Brandeis uses a non-weighted plus/minus 4.0 grade-point scale: A and A+ = 4.00, A− = 3.67, B+ = 3.33, B = 3.00, B− = 2.67, C+ = 2.33, C = 2.00, C− = 1.67, D+ = 1.33, D = 1.00, D− = 0.67, and E = 0.00.
Is A+ worth more than 4.0 at Brandeis?
No — at Brandeis an A+ carries the same value as an A, namely 4.00. The scale is not weighted, so the maximum grade point is 4.00.
Why does Brandeis use E instead of F?
Brandeis uses E (value 0.00) to denote failure instead of F. It works exactly like an F and earns no credit toward your degree.
How do I convert my Brandeis GPA to a percentage?
Use Percentage = GPA × 25 (equivalent to (GPA ÷ 4.0) × 100). For example, a GPA of 3.5 converts to 87.5%.
Which grades are left out of my Brandeis GPA?
Marks of CR, NC, P, S, U, W, and I carry no grade points and are excluded from the calculation. Only Brandeis courses graded A through E count toward your GPA.
