GPA Calculator

Calculate your Brandeis GPA and convert it to percentage using the official plus/minus 4.0 grading scale used on your Brandeis transcript.

Tool 1

Brandeis GPA Calculator

Add each course with its letter grade and credit hours. Calculation uses Brandeis's official grade-point values.

Add Your Courses

Brandeis uses a non-weighted plus/minus 4.0 scale. A+ counts the same as A (4.00).

The Math

How Brandeis GPA Is Calculated

Brandeis multiplies each grade point by credit hours to get quality points, then divides total quality points by attempted units.

Brandeis GPA Formula
\[ \text{GPA} = \frac{\displaystyle\sum \text{Points}}{\displaystyle\sum \text{Attempted Units}} = \frac{\displaystyle\sum (\text{Grade Point} \times \text{Credit Hours})}{\displaystyle\sum \text{Credit Hours}} \]
PointsGrade point value × credit hours for each course
Attempted UnitsTotal graded credit hours (excludes P, CR, NC, S, U, W)

📝 Worked Example

A sample calculation using three four-credit courses:

CourseCredit HoursGradeGrade PointPoints
ENG 1A4.0A4.004 × 4.00 = 16.00
MATH 10A4.0B−2.674 × 2.67 = 10.68
ECON 10A4.0C+2.334 × 2.33 = 9.32
Total12.036.00

Plugging into the formula:

\[ \text{GPA} = \frac{36.00}{12.0} \approx \mathbf{3.00} \]

Brandeis GPA to Percentage Converter

Convert your 4.0-scale Brandeis GPA to an equivalent percentage instantly.

Convert GPA → Percentage

Enter any Brandeis GPA between 0.0 and 4.0.

The Conversion Formula

Brandeis uses a 4.0 scale, so:

\[ \text{Percentage} = \text{GPA} \times 25 \quad \text{or equivalently} \quad \text{Percentage} = \left(\frac{\text{GPA}}{4.0}\right) \times 100 \]

Example: If your GPA is 3.5, then Percentage = 3.5 × 25 = 87.50%.

📌 Grades Excluded from GPA

The following marks carry no grade points and are not counted in attempted units: CR (Credit), NC (No Credit), P (Pass), S (Satisfactory), U (Unsatisfactory), W (Withdrawal), I (Incomplete).

Only Brandeis courses with letter grades of A through E are used when computing your grade point average. Cross-registration grades (subject code 9CRG) and transfer credit are excluded.

Got Questions?

Brandeis GPA — Frequently Asked Questions

What GPA scale does Brandeis University use?

Brandeis uses a non-weighted plus/minus 4.0 grade-point scale: A and A+ = 4.00, A− = 3.67, B+ = 3.33, B = 3.00, B− = 2.67, C+ = 2.33, C = 2.00, C− = 1.67, D+ = 1.33, D = 1.00, D− = 0.67, and E = 0.00.

Is A+ worth more than 4.0 at Brandeis?

No — at Brandeis an A+ carries the same value as an A, namely 4.00. The scale is not weighted, so the maximum grade point is 4.00.

Why does Brandeis use E instead of F?

Brandeis uses E (value 0.00) to denote failure instead of F. It works exactly like an F and earns no credit toward your degree.

How do I convert my Brandeis GPA to a percentage?

Use Percentage = GPA × 25 (equivalent to (GPA ÷ 4.0) × 100). For example, a GPA of 3.5 converts to 87.5%.

Which grades are left out of my Brandeis GPA?

Marks of CR, NC, P, S, U, W, and I carry no grade points and are excluded from the calculation. Only Brandeis courses graded A through E count toward your GPA.
