GPA Calculator

Calculate your ASU GPA and convert it to percentage using the official plus/minus 4.0 grading scale used on your Sun Devil transcript.

Tool 1

ASU GPA Calculator

Add each course with its letter grade and credit (semester) hours. Calculation uses ASU's official grade-point values.

Add Your Courses

ASU uses a plus/minus 4.0 scale. A+ counts as 4.33, but cumulative GPA is capped at 4.00.

The Math

How ASU GPA Is Calculated

ASU multiplies each grade point by credit hours to get honor points, then divides total honor points by net hours.

ASU GPA Formula
\[ \text{GPA} = \frac{\displaystyle\sum \text{Honor Points}}{\displaystyle\sum \text{Net Hours}} = \frac{\displaystyle\sum (\text{Grade Point} \times \text{Credit Hours})}{\displaystyle\sum \text{Credit Hours}} \]
Honor PointsGrade point value × credit hours for each course
Net HoursTotal graded credit hours (excludes P, W, X, Y, etc.)

📝 Worked Example

An official ASU example using three courses:

CourseCredit HoursGradeGrade PointHonor Points
ENG 1013.0A4.003 × 4.00 = 12.00
MAT 1173.0B−2.673 × 2.67 = 8.01
ECN 1113.0E0.003 × 0.00 = 0.00
Total9.020.01

Plugging into the formula:

\[ \text{GPA} = \frac{20.01}{9.0} \approx \mathbf{2.22} \]
Tool 2

ASU GPA to Percentage Converter

Convert your 4.0-scale ASU GPA to an equivalent percentage instantly.

Convert GPA → Percentage

Enter any ASU GPA between 0.0 and 4.0.

The Conversion Formula

ASU uses a 4.0 scale, so:

\[ \text{Percentage} = \text{GPA} \times 25 \quad \text{or equivalently} \quad \text{Percentage} = \left(\frac{\text{GPA}}{4.0}\right) \times 100 \]

Example: If your GPA is 3.5, then Percentage = 3.5 × 25 = 87.50%.

Got Questions?

ASU GPA — Frequently Asked Questions

What GPA scale does Arizona State University use?

ASU uses a plus/minus 4.0 grade-point scale: A = 4.00, A− = 3.67, B+ = 3.33, B = 3.00, B− = 2.67, C+ = 2.33, C = 2.00, D = 1.00, and E = 0.00. There is no D+ or D−.

Is A+ worth 4.33 at ASU?

Yes — an A+ carries a value of 4.33. However, your cumulative GPA is capped at 4.00, so a single A+ cannot raise your overall GPA above 4.00.

Why does ASU use E instead of F?

ASU uses E (value 0.00) to denote failure instead of F. It works exactly like an F. Related failing marks — EN, EU, and XE — are all counted as an E in your GPA.

How do I convert my ASU GPA to a percentage?

Use Percentage = GPA × 25 (equivalent to (GPA ÷ 4.0) × 100). For example, a GPA of 3.5 converts to 87.5%.

Which grades are left out of my ASU GPA?

Marks of I, P, W, X, Y, Z, and NR carry no grade points and are excluded from both honor points and net hours, so they don't affect your GPA.
